The Maine Republican Hick on Wednesday, July 01, 2009 10:05:37 PM
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’m hoping that Senator Joe Perry was just trying to inject some levity into the despair of the times we are in. Sadly, I fear that Mr. Perry may actually believe what he said on Fox News concerning the Democratic Party in Maine. Even more alarming, is the strong possibility that the good Senator thinks the citizens of Maine believe him, too. It seems that if one wallows in lies long enough one can inoculate himself against the truth.
In case you haven’t heard, Senator Joe Perry told Fox News that Maine Democrats have “a history of lowering taxes in Maine.” (You can pick your jaws up from the floor now.) This from a member of a party that has created the the richest entitlement program (Medicare) in the United States; so rich it is near bankruptcy. The Democrats historical (or hysterical) answer to the ballooning Mainecare budget… raise taxes. One of the proposed new taxes for this year was a “non-motorized watercraft” tax. Any law enforcement officer can tell you that an inner-tube is considered a “non-motorized watercraft”. So is there a tax differential between the skidder inner-tube and the family car inner-tube…and oh, I’m sure this is true… there must be eco-friendly tax breaks for those who use a “Prius” earth friendly, go green inner tub
This is the same party that has taxed all the industry out of the state of Maine. This is the party that has raised the fuel tax so high in Maine that truck drivers had to drive their trucks to Augusta to try to get some national attention, leaving Governor Baldacci cowering in his office, afraid to come out.
The “dirty little secret” Joe Perry doesn’t want you to know is that the Democrats’ overspending and over taxation has left Augusta in such a budget crisis that liberals had their backs to the wall. In desperation they allowed…you’ll never believe this…the Republicans to do a little cutting; not a lot, mind you (we wouldn’t want to actually fix the problem), just a little.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. The Democratic party platform has always been: 1.) Democrats make a mess 2.) Democrats blame the Republicans 3.) Republicans clean up the mess 4.) Democrats take the credit for it.
Senator Joe Perry reminds me of another Joe who is a gaff-a-minute and believes his own lies. He’s the Vice-President. I hope Governor Sarah Palin doesn’t mind if I borrow a line from the Vice-Presidential debate, “Say it ain’t so, Joe!”
